Chicago Bears Teammate Shares Interesting Caleb Williams Comments

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears started off the 2025 NFL season with a very disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Despite a strong start to the game, the Bears were unable to finish things off and ended up losing by a final score of 27-24.

Entering the season, Williams was among the most talked about players in the league. Plenty of reports during the offseason suggested that Williams was struggling and there were major questions swirling about whether or not he truly was the long-term franchise quarterback the Bears need him to be.

In Week 1, he looked decent, but he certainly didn’t look dominant.

Williams completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for 210 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. He also ran for 58 yards and a touchdown on six attempts.

With Week 2 right around the corner, one of his teammates has spoken out with some interesting comments about him. That teammate was none other than star cornerback Jaylon Johnson.

“I feel like for me, I’m not going to say, ‘Oh yeah, I see him doing it or I see him not doing it,'” Johnson said. “I know he’s definitely taking steps, I definitely see his car in the lot a lot longer than it was, definitely taking those steps. But I can’t say that he’s progressing to be a TB [Tom Brady] and I ain’t ever really know what TB put in.”

Johnson’s comments could lead one to think that Williams did not put in the work necessary during his rookie season. He also might simply be saying that the second-year quarterback is working even harder in year two.

Either way, the comments are not glowing praise for Williams. A young quarterback in Williams’ shoes should never come up short on the work side of things. Johnson’s comments also insinuate that his work ethic isn’t elite.

No one can expect a player to put in the kind of work that Tom Brady put in. There is a reason that Brady was so dominant throughout his NFL career and is widely considered the best of all time.

However, Williams is a No. 1 overall pick and Chicago is building its entire franchise around him. That could become problematic if Williams isn’t putting in the work necessary for him to become great.

Only time will tell, but these comments are relatively cryptic and could be a cause for concern. Johnson could be praising Williams for his improvement from a worth ethic standpoint, or he could be noting a legitimate reason for concern.
