Retired Mets Infielder Takes Uncalled-For Shot at Yankees’ Anthony Volpe
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
Anthony Volpe has not had a good season for the New York Yankees. He entered Friday leading the American League in errors, and his work at the plate has been terrible.
Recently, Volpe was given some time on the bench to reset. However, his struggles have continued. Now, the Yankees have revealed that he has been dealing with a shoulder injury and recently received a cortisone shot.
He has not been in the lineup for the last three games, and according to the New York Post’s Greg Joyce, he will not start in Boston as he continues to recover from the cortisone shot.

His latest trip to the bench has more to do with his injury than play. The Yankees have remained adamant that he is their starting shortstop, and he figures to be back in the lineup when healthy. However, retired New York Mets infielder Bobby Valentine took an uncalled-for shot at Volpe before the Mets’ Alumni Classic.
“The shortstop across town was so uncomfortable that he’s benched now,” Valentine said while discussing how John Olerud made sure the Mets’ infield was comfortable, per SNY. “Think about that.”
The reality is the Yankees have not benched Volpe, outside of the two-day break they gave him. Valentine played 111 games for the Mets over the course of two seasons.
He was talking about the importance of being comfortable while playing in the infield, and went out of his way to note that Volpe has not been. He did not give any reasoning to why Volpe has been uncomfortable, and nothing indicating that he has not been comfortable has come from the Yankees.
