South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers Exits Game With Concerning Injury
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
In the second quarter of Saturday’s SEC matchup between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Vanderbilt Commodores, preseason Heisman Trophy hopeful LaNorris Sellers went down with a concerning head injury after being the recipient of a targeting call, which has forced him out of the game.
With just under two minutes left in the second quarter, Sellers was able to get a pass into the flat to his running back Rahsul Faison. But in doing so, he took a massive hit to the head from a blitzing Vanderbilt defender, who was flagged for targeting and subsequently ejected from the game.

Sellers was ultimately replaced by senior wide receiver and emergency quarterback Luke Doty. And at least initially, it was unclear what Sellers’ status was after the first half had come to an end.
However, at the start of the second half, a further update would emerge on Sellers. And it was not a positive one for South Carolina fans, as Sellers was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Sellers impact both as a passer and as a rushing threat can not be understated. After all, there is a reason why Sellers came into the season with the fifth-highest odds to win the Heisman Trophy.
So it certainly seems like South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer will have his hands full attempting to beat Vanderbilt in Saturday’s matchup without Sellers for the second half.

As for how this injury could potentially impact South Carolina’s season for the remainder of the year, that will obviously depend on just how severe the injury ends up being.
But considering the fact that South Carolina is set to face off against another tough SEC matchup in Week 4, the No. 25-ranked Missouri Tigers, Sellers’ availability leading into next week’s game will certainly be among the biggest talking points around college football in the days to come.
