The Europe We Once Knew and Loved Is Gone, Says Viktor Orbán

“What is victory?”, Viktor Orbán posed the question in a Facebook post following the first nationwide meeting of the Digital Civic Circles in Budapest. In the post, in which he also answers his own question, the Prime Minister touched on the EU’s crises, Hungary’s current situation, and the importance of courage.

The greatest success of the Hungarian people lies in determining their own fate, wrote PM Orbán. In his view, the enemies of the past in the 20th century wanted Hungary to remain small and poor, but Hungary’s goal is to become great and wealthy. “We are simply making Hungary great!”, emphasized the Prime Minister.

He harshly criticized European leaders, who he believes have driven the European Union into bankruptcy. “Mountains of debt, masses of migrants, violence in the streets, the ever-darkening shadows of war, mass layoffs, exploding utility costs, millions of households driven into financial dead ends, and Brussels bureaucrats running around like headless chickens. Like a bad GPS: constantly recalculating, but never arriving at the destination,” he stated.

According to Viktor Orbán, courage is the most important thing for Hungarians right now, distinguishing three types: intellectual, political, and personal courage. Regarding the first, he wrote:

Let us say it openly: the Europe we once knew and loved is gone.”

He added that Hungary’s migration policy is better because “Hungary has remained a migration-free country”; that Hungary’s family policy is better because it connects work and having children; and that Hungary’s tax system is also better because anyone who wants to work can find a job.

On the subject of political courage, he emphasized that it must be made clear in Brussels: Hungary rejects the path being proposed there. According to him, Brussels’ path would mean transferring Hungarian funds to Ukraine, higher taxes, cuts to family tax benefits, and an overall economic blow.

The Brussels path is a sure road to ruin, whereas the national path is a guarantee for Hungary’s future,”

he stated.

He also addressed the importance of personal courage, especially in the digital space. As he said, supporters of the Brussels line have already entrenched themselves in the online world, where they try to silence their opponents through aggression and intimidation.

In PM Orbán’s view, Hungarians must move forward on social media and not retreat. According to him, the Digital Civic Circles (DPK) provide safe protection from the “leftist madness raging online” and “releases enormous constructive energy.”

Today, the whole world can see that we will not leave the digital space to the Brussels bureaucrats either. The digital space also belongs to Hungary. Here too, we defend our country, we defend our freedom – our national algorithm is already at work here,”

declared the Prime Minister in connection with the first national meeting of the Digital Civic Circles, held on Saturday at the Papp László Sports Arena in Budapest.

Fact

The creation of the DPK was announced by Viktor Orbán during his speech at the Bálványos Free Summer University (Tusványos). The goal of the new initiative is to build online communities that protect Hungarian culture, language, and identity in the digital space. Since the launch, several communities have been formed, and according to official reports, membership has already exceeded 70,000.

On September 20, the first major meeting of the Digital Civic Circles (DPK) took place in the Papp László Sports Arena. The event, that was open exclusively to registered members, offered lectures, musical performances, and an expo with several dozen exhibitors. In addition to the Prime Minister, several government and civil society representatives spoke on stage.
