Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, who has Hungarian roots, capped off a sensational year by winning the prestigious Gerd Müller Trophy at the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, held at the Theatre du Châtelet in Paris. The award is presented to the top goal-scorer across club and international football in the season.
This is the second time a Premier League player has won the Gerd Müller Trophy, named after the legendary German striker, following Erling Haaland’s 56 goals for Manchester City in 2023. Last year’s winners were Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) and Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), who scored 52 goals each.
Gyökeres netted an astonishing 54 goals in 52 matches for the Portuguese Sporting CP and the Sweden national team in the 2024/25 season, earning him the honor and placing him in illustrious company.
This season, the 27-year-old athlete joined Arsenal in a high-profile summer move, and he has already made his mark in England, scoring three goals in his first five Premier League appearances.

Previously known as Striker of the Year or Best Striker Award, the Gerd Müller Trophy has been awarded since 2021. The award goes to the highest-scoring player from the previous season, taking into account goals scored for both European clubs and national teams.
