WWE Star AJ Styles Responds to Rival’s Huge Match Request

WWE star AJ Styles has put on all sorts of memorable matches throughout his career, whether with TNA, Ring of Honor, or WWE.

Despite competing in a match at WrestleMania 41, he has been less prominent during WWE’s recent big events, such as Clash in Paris and Wrestlepalooza.

That could change based on a recent rematch request from one of his biggest rivals of all-time: John Cena. Fans recently saw the popular superstar lose at Wrestlepalooza, but his retirement tour isn’t over just yet.

On Monday evening, Cena took to social media where he teased a potential rematch involving Styles, asking Styles and Triple H if they were “listening” to his request.

As of Tuesday morning, Styles officially responded, suggesting, “I hear them loud and clear. Let’s do it, I’m ready!”

Cena and Styles have an extensive rivalry within WWE, which goes back to late May 2016. At the time, Cena was returning to WWE. Styles welcomed him back on Raw, only to attack him with the help of former Bullet Club stablemates Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.

Styles and Cena faced off in an epic match at SummerSlam that same year, which Styles previously chose as his favorite match of all time.

That SummerSlam clash, seen in the video below, currently has 4.4 million views on YouTube. Per IWNerd, the match received 4.5 stars from Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, who awards five stars to classic matches.

As of this report, it’s unclear when and where the next match in their rivalry will take place. Cena has just five appearances left for his WWE retirement tour, including Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on Oct. 11.

In November, Cena appears on two episodes of Raw: Boston on Nov. 10 and in New York on Nov. 17. His Survivor Series: WarGames appearance in San Diego is Nov. 29. Cena’s official “final match” occurs Dec. 13 on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Some speculation arose after his loss to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza that Cena might challenge Brock to one last match, which would also serve as Cena’s final match before retirement. It will be interesting to see if Triple H makes the AJ Styles rematch happen and where it will occur for Cena’s remaining appearances.
