Body camera footage released Tuesday shows a federal immigration agent describing his injuries as “nothing major” moments after another officer fatally shot a Mexican immigrant in suburban Chicago earlier this month.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security had previously said the officer was seriously injured when Silverio Villegas González allegedly tried to flee arrest and dragged him with his car.

The shooting in Franklin Park, a majority Hispanic suburb west of Chicago, has intensified tensions over federal immigration operations that officials say have led to hundreds of arrests.

Immigrant advocates, Illinois officials and Mexico’s president are demanding greater transparency as investigations continue.
