Colts Linked to Major Quarterback Move to Replace Daniel …
To begin the 2025 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts have gone 3-0. Daniel Jones has taken over as the team’s starting quarterback and has been playing at an MVP level to begin the year.
Is Jones playing at this level sustainable? That remains to be seen. However, he has done an excellent job of revitalizing his career after a rough stint with the New York Giants.
Through the Colts’ first three games of the season, Jones has completed 71.6 percent of his passes for 816 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. He has also picked up 55 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground.

With that being said, there are still many who aren’t buying the Jones hype. Some are even suggesting that Indianapolis continue planning on potential quarterback options to target during the 2026 NFL offseason.
One of those people is Owain Jones of Pro Football Network. He has suggested the Colts make a potential quarterback move that would replace Jones as the starter following the 2025 season.
Jones has released a new mock draft and he had Indianapolis taking LSU signal caller Garrett Nussmeier with the No. 8 overall pick.
“The Colts have been able to unlock the best of Daniel Jones. However, is he the long-term answer? The answer is no if the Colts are drafting in the top 10,” Jones wrote. “Garrett Nussmeier has earned a solid 78.5 (C+) PFSN’s College QBi grade, and the LSU quarterback is perhaps the most NFL-ready signal-caller currently available. The 6’1″ and 205-pound passer showcases elite processing, football IQ, and sufficient arm talent.”
While the suggestion was backed up with his opinion, there are a few problems with the suggestion.
First and foremost, the Colts are now 3-0 this season. Falling apart and ending up with a top-10 pick would be a huge change of pace. Secondly, would replacing Jones with Nussmeier really be the kind of improvement Indianapolis would want to make?

Should Jones continue playing at his current level, the Colts aren’t going to be looking to draft a quarterback. They’re going to be looking to lock Jones up to a long-term contract.
It’s possible that Chris Ballard and company could end up needing a quarterback. Jones could slow down and struggle and Indianapolis could start losing. But, if the season continues as it has started in any way, shape, or form, Indianapolis will not be rushing to replace Jones.
