Red Sox Executive To Leave Organization for National Leag…
Paul Toboni is leaving the Boston Red Sox to take over as the top baseball operations executive for the Washington Nationals, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
Jeff Passan of ESPN was first to report the news.
Toboni, 35, was the favorite to be the general manager under Boston’s Chief Baseball Officer, Craig Breslow, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. Instead, he will depart for the Nationals.
The Nationals fired both their manager, Dave Martinez, and longtime executive Mike Rizzo amid a rebuilding 2025 season. Mike DeBartolo took over for Rizzo on an interim basis in July.
Besides Toboni, the Nats had been linked to Chicago Cubs general manager Carter Hawkins, Arizona Diamondbacks senior vice president and assistant general manager Amiel Sawdaye, and former San Diego Padres and Dbacks GM Josh Byrnes (currently an executive with the Los Angeles Dodgers).
