Following a dismal 0-3 start, the Miami Dolphins may just be desperate enough to try anything.
The team dot boat-raced in Week 1 by the Indianapolis Colts, and though they played much better in Weeks 2 and 3 against the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, respectively, they still weren’t able to put together a winning formula.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is off to arguably the worst start of his career (557 yards, five touchdowns, four interceptions), and the Dolphins rank 23rd in total offense, 26th in total defense, and they’re tied for the fifth-most giveaways in the league.
While there may not be one solution to the team’s myriad of problems, Bleacher Report’s Joseph Zucker believes one change they could make in a desperation play to turn their season around is to trade for New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson to help put more pressure on Tagovailoa to turn things around.

“A head coach on the hot seat and a quarterback who isn’t delivering is a recipe to make a change, even when the QB in question is only in the first year of a four-year, $212.4 million extension” Zucker wrote. “… One could argue acquiring Wilson would be a lateral move when he has an even lower QBR.
“The 36-year-old would, if nothing else, give Miami an alternative if head coach Mike McDaniel gets desperate or Tagovailoa goes down with an injury — two things that could plausibly happen. Zach Wilson and Quinn Ewers are the next two QBs on the depth chart right now, and neither is a viable replacement if the Dolphins have to salvage the season.”

Some might not even consider Wilson a lateral move given he’s also struggled this season and was recently benched for rookie Jaxson Dart. However, Wilson is averaging nearly 70 more yards passing per game, and he’s thrown fewer interceptions (three) and taken fewer sacks (seven) than Tagovailoa this season.
Miami also has a better supporting cast of weapons for Wilson to work with if he were acquired.
De’Von Achane would be a big upgrade over the Tyrone Tracy-Cam Skattebo tandem New York has, and the trio of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Malik Washington trumps any combo of players the Giants have behind Malik Nabers.
