The guarantee of security for the Hungarian people is evident during the Adaptive Hussars 2025 national defense exercise, which is the largest military exercise since the change of regime, emphasized the Minister of Defense in his speech on Thursday during the visitors’ day at the Hungarian Armed Forces Central Training and Firing Range in the Hajmáskér area (western Hungary).
Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized that the entire spectrum of capabilities of the Hungarian Armed Forces will be demonstrated during the joint government and joint forces exercise.
The exercise will take place within the framework of NATO, with the participation of Croatian, Italian, and Turkish soldiers alongside the Hungarians, thus bringing together different types of weapons, communication methods, and command practices from several nations.
The minister said that a nationwide defense exercise similar to the current one has been unusual even within NATO countries. Not only the armed forces but also local governments and public administration will play a role in the exercise, “acting as if it were a state of war and performing their duties in this situation.”
He recalled that the exercise began in 2023 under the name Adaptive Hussars 2023, and the lessons learned from it are being used to implement the Adaptive Hussars 2025 exercise as an important milestone in the development of the Hungarian Armed Forces.
He said that during the defense exercise, “in response to a hypothetical external armed attack on the country, a significant military force will be mobilized within the country’s borders to defend the national border.”
The joint exercise involved 22,000 people, a significant proportion of whom were reservists, he said, adding that their number had increased by more than 40 percent in the last two to three years.

Colonel General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Hungarian Defense Forces, said that what was seen during the exercise was only a small part of the capabilities of the Hungarian Armed Forces.
The aim was to demonstrate how the air force, land forces, logistics, and satellite capabilities can work together.
According to him, the exercise demonstrated that the armed forces are a credible military force with modern equipment and well-trained personnel, and a strong member of NATO.

The press release issued on site stated that the exercise, which has been taking place in several locations across the country since the beginning of September, simulated land and air operations at its station in the Hajmáskér area.
Reconnaissance teams identified enemy movements using drones and rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. The series of exercises, which will last until mid-October, is of great importance not only from a military perspective, but also from an international and security policy perspective, they said.
