Amazon Recall Update: Risk of Death Warning Issued For Product Nationwide
Amazon shoppers nationwide are being urged to check their homes after federal regulators announced a recall of about 133,000 blinds sold on the platform, citing a risk of death or serious injury to children from strangulation and entanglement hazards.
In a separate notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 1.29 million ovens have been recalled because of a burn risk from malfunctioning doors.
Why the Recalls Matter: Strangulation and Burn Hazards in Nationwide Amazon Sales
The CPSC reported that about 1.3 million Oster ovens and 133,000 Persilux zebra blinds were sold before each recall was announced. While no injuries have yet been reported with the blinds, the Oster countertop ovens have resulted in 95 documented incidents, including two cases of second-degree burns. The recalls spotlight growing federal concern over the safety of imported consumer products available online, especially those endangering children. The CPSC said the blinds violate federal cord safety regulations, posing a risk of “serious injury or death.”
As Amazon’s product safety team noted: “Upon discovering a product recall, we immediately halt affected product offerings and promptly inform both customers and sellers involved about the recall.”
The recall of Persilux-branded zebra blinds involves window coverings with long operating cords available in several colors and sizes between 22 and 73 inches wide. The CPSC found that the blinds’ cords “can cause death or serious injury to children due to strangulation and entanglement hazards,” violating federal rules for window coverings and labeling requirements.
The blinds were sold on Amazon from June 2023 through June 2025 by Zhejiang Xidamen New Material Co. Ltd., under the name Persilux, and priced between $40 and $124. No injuries have been reported to date. Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the blinds, remove and cut the operating cord, and send a photo of the cord-removed blinds to the manufacturer at recall@persiluxhome.com to receive a free replacement cord wand kit and installation instructions. Further instructions are available at the Persilux recall site.
Sunbeam Products Inc., the importer of Oster ovens, has recalled about 1,290,000 units after receiving 95 reports of the appliance’s glass doors unexpectedly closing during use. The affected ovens include models TSSTTVFDXL, TSSTTVFDDG, TSSTTVFDMAF and TSSTTVFDDAF. The doors’ malfunction poses a “burn hazard to consumers,” according to the CPSC. There are two confirmed cases of second-degree burns linked to the defect.
The ovens were sold online and in stores—including Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, and Walmart—between August 2015 and July 2025 for $140 to $250. Customers are instructed to immediately stop using the ovens and contact Sunbeam Products for a free repair kit. The kit includes a clip-on device that increases the doors’ holding force, mitigating the burn risk, and can be installed without tools. Repair kit instructions and additional information are accessible at recall.oster.com or the Sunbeam Products customer service line at 800-334-0759.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Anyone who purchased either of the recalled products on Amazon or other major retailers should stop using them immediately. For blinds, follow the manufacturer’s process to disable and document removal of the hazard, then apply for a free repair kit. For the Oster ovens, request a free repair kit from Sunbeam before further use. For more details on both recalls, access the CPSC recall database or the respective company websites.
