Burnley makes the short trip south to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday for a David vs Goliath battle against the odds away to Manchester City. Scott Parker’s side have won just one of their five fixtures since returning to the Premier League this summer and will be hard-pressed to increase that total against Pep Guardiola & Co.
The last 13 straight meetings between these teams have each gone in favor of the Citizens, a run that dates back to February 2018 when the Clarets managed to hold out for a home draw. However, one would have to look as far back as March 1963 to find Burnley’s most recent win over City on its own turf.
Saturday’s visitor will also have the displeasure of going up against a City side motivated to do damage after winning just one of its last four league games. Guardiola’s men sit ninth in the table after drawing 1-1 at Arsenal last Sunday, where Gabriel Martinelli devastated City with a 93rd-minute equalizer.
On the plus side, Erling Haaland’s early strike in north London saw him rise to six goals in just five games this season, three more than any other Premier League player. Burnley’s Jaidon Anthony is one of those currently on three goals, having bagged 60% of his team’s finishes so far this term.
