BYD Celebrates 1,000th Electric Bus Manufactured in Komárom

On September 26, Chinese technology company BYD celebrated a significant manufacturing milestone at its Hungarian plant in Komárom: the delivery of the 1,000th purely electric bus produced in Europe.

The anniversary vehicle is a BYD eBus B12.b, a three-door solo bus that can carry up to 105 passengers, BYD Europe announced. It is the first model to be equipped with the innovative Blade Battery Chassis. The vehicle will soon join the fleet of the German municipal public transport company Oberhausen AG (STOAG), one of Germany’s pioneering eBus operators.

Opened in 2017, the Komárom site in northern Hungary—currently BYD Group’s only European bus manufacturing base—is now set for a major expansion.

As Hungary Today reported, the Chinese company announced the construction of an additional modern production hall at the end of June. This investment will not only create hundreds of new jobs, but also significantly increase the plant’s annual capacity. In the future, the plant will be able to produce over 1,000 electric buses annually. This could theoretically double the previous total production volume within just one year. The plant relies on the latest digital achievements and sustainable manufacturing technologies.

The handover of the 1,000th electric bus took place during a small ceremony.

Tian Chunlong, General Manager of BYD Commercial Vehicle Division, emphasized the company’s European strategy. “The motto ‘Made in Europe, for Europe’ is more than a commitment—it is the reality our Hungarian and Chinese teams deliver together.” he said. “We will keep investing locally and partnering across Europe to drive a greener future in public transport,” he explained the company’s future plans.

In addition to BYD executives and employees from the Komárom plant, representatives from the German public transport company STOAG also attended the celebration.
