Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Failure

A Hungarian Defense Forces H225M helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing near the town of Pápa due to an engine failure, honvedelem.hu reported on Friday.

The aircraft, assigned to the 86th Helicopter Brigade, had been stationed at the Pápa (western Hungary) military airbase in recent days as part of the Adaptive Hussars 2025 national defense exercise. Earlier this week, more than 300 soldiers and over two dozen technical units from the Szolnok-based (central Hungary) helicopter squadron were deployed to Pápa to test the new garrison support concept.

The incident occurred shortly after the helicopter, bearing tail number 74, took off from the 47th Pápa Air Base on Friday afternoon, heading back to its permanent base in Szolnok. Just minutes into the flight, the pilots were forced to land the aircraft between the villages of Adásztevel and Nagytevel in Veszprém County, roughly one kilometre from the nearest main road and outside any residential area.

No injuries or damage were reported, and the helicopter landed without incident. A technical repair team was immediately dispatched from Szolnok, and the site was secured by military personnel, reads the statement.

The helicopter was participating in Adaptive Hussars 2025 (ADHU 25), a large-scale NATO-led national defense exercise that began on September 1 and will run through mid-October. A multinational helicopter combat training exercise is also taking place at the Pápa base between September 29 and October 17.
