An already injured New York Jets team may have just taken another hit.
During the second quarter of Monday’s game against the division rival Miami Dolphins, backup running back Braelon Allen took a nasty hit to his knee on a kickoff return. He has now been officially ruled for the remainder of the game due to the injury, and according to former NFL team doctor David J. Chao, there is cause for concern.
According to Chao, he believes that there is a reason to be concerned about a potential MCL sprain for Allen. That would be a huge blow for New York, as Allen has shown flashes of being an excellent backup behind Breece Hall.
This season has been extremely slow for Allen, as he entered Monday with just 54 rushing yards and 17 receiving. He has been in the endzone once on the ground, one less than his total from all of last season. He’d also returned three kickoffs for 76 yards, good for an average of just over 25 yards per return.
If Allen’s injury is indeed serious, that would mean more carries for Hall as well as more opportunities for rookie Isaiah Davis. We will continue to monitor the severity of Allen’s injury and provide those updates as they become available throughout the week.
