Ford Responds to Trump’s Sweeping New Tariffs on Trucks
Ford CEO Jim Farley has responded to President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on overseas heavy trucks.
The Trump administration announced last week it would begin harnessing 25 percent levies on heavy-duty trucks imported into the U.S. as of Wednesday, October 1.
“In order to protect our Great Heavy Truck Manufacturers from unfair outside competition, I will be imposing, as of October 1st, 2025, a 25% Tariff on all ‘Heavy (Big!) Trucks’ made in other parts of the World,” Trump said in a Truth Social post Thursday.
Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box Tuesday, Farley said: “This is a really big deal for our country, and for Ford.
“We make all of our heavy duty trucks in America. A 25 percent tariff will be a really big deal.”
Ford builds its heavy-duty trucks mainly at two plants in the U.S. One is in Louisville, Kentucky, where most of its heavy-duty vehicles are made. The other is in Avon Lake, Ohio, which produces the larger and more specialized heavy-duty models.
