George Russell is on the pole for this race after running the fastest lap in the history of this track. Russell, whose only other pole this year was at the Canadian Grand Prix, is in search of his second victory of the season.
Max Verstappen is looking for his third consecutive victory this weekend and starts second. Verstappen is still chasing points leader Oscar Piastri, whose lead has shrunk over the past couple of races. Piastri will start third on Sunday.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli will share Row 2 with Piastri, while Lando Norris will share Row 4 with Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc starts seventh beside Isack Hadjar, while Ollie Bearman and Fernando Alonso round out the top 10 on the starting grid.
The rest of the starting lineup, in order, is Nico Hulkenberg, Alexander Albon, Carlos Sainz Jr., Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, Gabriel Bortoleto, Lance Stroll, Franco Colapinto, Esteban Ocon, and Pierre Gasly.
Piastri leads the point standings with 324 points. Norris, his teammate, sits second with 299, followed by Verstappen at 255. The championship battle is essentially down to those three drivers.
