Dillon Gabriel Delivers Challenge to Browns Teammates After Vikings Loss
The Cleveland Browns made the decision to change starting quarterbacks ahead of this week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in London. Dillon Gabriel received the start in place of veteran signal caller Joe Flacco.
Unfortunately, the change did not result in a win. When all was said and done, the Browns fell to the Vikings by a final score of 21-17.
While the loss was disappointing, Gabriel played a solid game. He completed 19 of his 33 pass attempts for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

It was a solid starting debut, although there is clearly still work for Gabriel to do. That being said, he showed off his leadership ability after the game by issuing a challenge to his teammates despite the rough 1-4 start to the season.
Even though it’s clear that the Browns are not going to be a surprise playoff contender, Gabriel wants to see his teammates dig deep and work hard. He wants to see his team show that they are true competitors.
“Got to get back to work,” Gabriel said. “There’s a lot to improve on, but I think in moments like these, you find true competitors, you find people who want to be here…what I know about our guys is we continue to work hard, continue to grind.”
Myles Garrett spoke out about the young quarterback’s first career start for Cleveland.
“He looked like he usually does,” Garrett said. “Composed, making the plays that we know he can make. He put us in position to win. We have to help ourselves out.”
At this point, the Browns simply need to find out whether or not they have a legitimate starting quarterback on the roster. They have two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, but before they use one on a quarterback they need to see what Gabriel and fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders can provide.

After his first start, Gabriel has shown enough to warrant more playing time. He looked poised, confident, and was also showed his leadership ability. Cleveland could not have asked for more outside of a win.
Next week, the Browns will take on Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. That will be a big test for Gabriel and the Cleveland offense.
