Cat Sees Dog Walking Past Store Daily, Response Goes Viral: ‘True Nemesis’
A woman couldn’t resist recording the chaotic moment a cat and dog began barking, pawing, and lunging at each other through a glass door.
The viral clip, posted by TikTok user @allergictokimchi from Brooklyn, captures the two pets furiously going at it—the cat inside a store and the dog on the sidewalk outside.
According to the dog’s owner, this nightly ritual is nothing new. The on-screen text simply reads, “they do this every night,” suggesting the pair are well-acquainted adversaries.
The video, captioned “Having a true nemesis must be such a rush,” has struck a chord online, amassing more than 846,000 views and nearly 200,000 likes.
Despite the apparent aggression, TikTok users believe the feisty exchange might be more playful than it seems.
“They secretly love each other,” one person wrote, while another jokingly compared them to “Romeo and Juliet.”
Others pointed out that the cat’s body language suggests amusement rather than anger.
“Her tail would be puffy if she didn’t want that dog there,” one commenter explained. Another added, “As a cat person, this is definitely a game—kitty’s tail is curved in a hook the entire time, which is a friendly or playful indicator.”
According to PetMD, a cat’s tail shaped like a question mark—standing upright with a curved tip—is typically a sign of friendliness and curiosity, not hostility.
Though the viral moment may look dramatic, experts say cats and dogs can often form surprisingly strong bonds. The American Kennel Club (AKC) explains that, with patience and proper socialization, the two species can live in harmony—and sometimes even become best friends.
Dogs’ tendency to chase or bark at cats often stems from their natural prey drive, a leftover instinct from their wild ancestors. Cats, meanwhile, rely heavily on subtle body language—so misunderstandings are common. While a wagging dog’s tail might indicate excitement or friendliness, a flicking cat’s tail can signal irritation.
Despite these differences, many cats and dogs learn to coexist peacefully and even form close bonds—often playing or napping side by side. Early socialization between kittens and puppies helps build trust, while introducing young pets to calm, well-mannered older animals fosters mutual respect.
With time, training, and supervision, their interactions can evolve from chaotic window battles to genuine friendship.
Just look at Luna, a 4-year-old dog, and Calcifer, an 8-month-old cat, who were filmed watching their favorite show together. Another inseparable pair captured hearts online when a cat refused to leave her canine companion’s side—even joining him on daily walks.
