Report: Browns, Jaguars Strike Deal in Surprising Trade
The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars are on opposite sides of the standings through the first five weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
For the Browns, the start of the year has not gone well. They are just 1-4 ahead of their next matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, they were not expected to be a playoff contender this season to begin with.
As for the Jaguars, they are fresh off of beating the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 5 to improve to 4-1. With such a strong start, it’s time to start talking about Jacksonville as a potential team to watch.

On Wednesday evening, the two teams came together on an interesting trade.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the two teams have swapped cornerbacks. Greg Newsome II will be heading to Jacksonville along with a 2026 sixth-round pick, while Cleveland will be acquiring Tyson Campbell and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Newsome is an intriguing pickup for the Jaguars. The former No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has shown signs of major potential, but has yet to put it all together. In his first 59 career games, he has racked up 178 total tackles, a sack, three interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 37 defended passes.
Campbell was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft at No. 33 overall. He has played in 60 career games and has recorded 297 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, six interceptions, and 42 defended passes.
Truthfully, the two cornerbacks have produced at a very similar level with Campbell being more of an impact player thus far. However, there is no question that Newsome has a higher ceiling than he has been able to show so far.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact these two players can make with their new teams. A change of scenery could be a good thing for both of them.
Expect to see the NFL heat up with trade talks in the coming days. For the Browns, it’s their second trade of the week after shipping veteran quarterback Joe Flacco off to the Cincinnati Bengals.
