János Bóka, Minister for European Union Affairs, recently revealed that he had discussed Judit Varga’s return with her. The Minister spoke highly of the former justice minister, and added that it was up to the person concerned to decide whether to return to the “political arena.”
Minister János Bóka stated during the Hetek podcast that he has only the best things to say about Judit Varga in human, professional, moral, and political terms, adding that she is a strong pillar of the Fidesz political community.
Every gesture she makes to show her support for our political community strengthens us, and we are very happy about that,”
said the Minister.
However, he also emphasized that the decision to return must be made by the former minister, who retired from public life in February 2024.
Recently, Varga’s ex-husband and leader of the largest opposition party, Péter Magyar, responded on his social media page to the suggestion that his ex-wife, Judit Varga, might return to politics. The president of the Tisza Party wrote that he would not comment on his ex-spouse’s private or political decisions and would not speak ill of her publicly in the next six months. The former couple has three children.
In October, Minister Gergely Gulyás responded in a video to the request to help Varga return to public life, expressing his support for her comeback.
Fact
Former Head of State Katalin Novák and Judit Varga both retired from public life around the same time in early 2024, citing a combination of personal reasons and the controversy surrounding an amnesty case. At the time Judit Varga had been expected to lead the Fidesz-KDNP European Parliament list in the upcoming elections in 2024.
