The New York Yankees were one of the best teams in baseball this year, but they came up short in the American League Division Series.
The Yankees’ future will be determined by how this offseason goes. They have a few key players, led by Cody Bellinger, headed to free agency this winter. If the Yankees can’t bring back their top talent, they could struggle next season.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently projected Yankees free agent Trent Grisham would sign for four years and $72 million in free agency this winter, which would be quite the huge score for the veteran outfielder.
“From non-tender candidate to 34-homer season, Grisham did more to boost his stock than perhaps any player in the 2025-26 free-agent class this year,” Reuter wrote on Thursday. “Teams won’t simply forget the fact that he hit .191 with an 84 OPS+ in 1,288 plate appearances over the previous three seasons, but he’s positioned himself for a nice multi-year deal.”
Considering the fact that Grisham seemed like a liability on the Yankees’ roster at points during the 2024 season, it’s surprising to see him headed for a big payday this late in his career.
In all likelihood, he’s going to sign a three or four-year deal worth between $50 million and $70 million this offseason.
The Yankees could look to re-sign him, but there are bound to be other suitors in the sweepstakes, too.
