Man’s food kept vanishing from inside the oven-so he sets up hidden camera

Unsure how his food kept vanishing from the oven, a man decided to set up a hidden camera, and what he discovered left the internet in stitches.

Russell, who is known on TikTok as @icantycook, kept returning home to his meals missing from the oven. His wife told him she left it there for him, but when he returned and checked, it was empty. Russell instead found what was left of his meals in his dog’s bed. Puzzled by how the Yorkshire terrier managed to get the food, he set up a hidden camera.

He posted the results to TikTok earlier this week—reaching over 180,000 views—with the caption that reads: “Caught red-pawed. Yorkies steal food straight from the oven! These two think they run the kitchen…”

The hidden camera captured his two dogs, Alfie and Poppy, teaming up for the mission. As soon as Russell walked out the door, Alfie pulled the oven door open and was about to take the food, but realized it was a bit too hot. Impatient, the other came over to see if it was cool enough to take, but Russell came back in time to catch them in the act.

This sneaky snack raid is common among dogs, especially when they think their owners are not looking. A 2013 study published in Animal Cognition cited that dogs are less likely to steal forbidden food when owners have their eyes on them. Canines will read their human. They’ll seize the opportunity to take food when the lights are dimmed or a person’s view is blocked.

Russell told Newsweek via email that this video was from seven years ago. He rediscovered this video while scrolling on his phone and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give others a chance to laugh at Alfie’s antics.

“Sadly, Alfie is no longer with us,” he said. “He passed away a few years ago. Poppy is still with us, along with Marley and Alro, our other pets.”

Viewer Reactions

TikTok user flooded the video with laughter, as many have experienced the same from their pets. The clip reached over 4,192 likes and 231 comments.

“My cat does with my microwave. No joke! If she can’t get to the microwave. It’s that pantry. If all else fails. The bin! She is dewormed. Has fresh balanced meals every day. She is just a greedy little pig,” wrote one pet parent.

Others couldn’t get over the dog’s craftiness: “That’s brilliant. You got to love them.”

Someone joked: “At least you’ll know that he wouldn’t starve if something were to happen.”
