Unemployment Rate Holds Steady at 4.5 Percent in September


In September 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15-74 was 4,669,000. The number of unemployed persons was 218,000, and the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent, based on a report released on Wednesday by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

In the three-month period from July to September 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15-74 was 4,679,000, 29,000 fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed men decreased by 21,000 to 2,470,000, while the number of employed women decreased to 2,209,000, according to the KSH.

There were 4,504,000 people working in the domestic primary labor market, which was 41,000 fewer than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public sector employees was 72,000, while 103,000 people were working abroad.

Among those aged 15-64, the employment rate remained virtually unchanged at 75.4 percent, despite a simultaneous decline in the population and the number of employed persons. This figure was 78.8 percent for men and 71.9 percent for women.

The average number of unemployed people aged 15-74 was 221,000, and the unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in the July-September period.

The number of unemployed men was 120,000 and the number of unemployed women was 101,000. The rate was 4.6 percent for men and 4.4 percent for women, practically unchanged from the July-September period of the previous year.

The average duration of job search was 11.2 months, with 45.6 percent of unemployed people looking for work for less than three months, while 29.3 percent had been unable to find work for at least a year.

The KSH cites administrative data from the National Employment Service, according to which the number of registered job seekers at the end of September 2025 decreased by 3.6 percent compared to a year earlier, to 220,000.
