USC enters its second season in the Big Ten Conference with an almost entirely new roster following a 17-18 season that ended in the quarterfinals of the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament. The Trojans bring back just one player from that team, with 10 transfers that include guard Jacob Cofie (Virginia) and forward Chad Baker-Mazara (Auburn), who are expected to anchor the rotation. Five-star guard Alijah Arenas, meanwhile, will miss the start of the season while recovering from July knee surgery.
Grand Canyon has played in the last three NCAA tournaments, but takes a step up in competition with its move to the Mountain West Conference this season. The Antelopes lost their top four scorers from a 26-8 team that was blown out by Maryland in the first round of March Madness. With Makiah Williams and Caleb Shaw returning, Grand Canyon will lead on transfers Dusty Stromer (Gonzaga), Jaden Henley (UNLV), Wilhelm Breidenbach (Washington), Nana Owusu-Anane (Brown), Brian Moore Jr. (Norfolk State), and Kaleb Smith (UC Riverside).
USC won its first exhibition, topping Loyola Marymount 60-51 on Oct. 18, while Grand Canyon dropped a 79-74 decision at Baylor on Oct. 10.
