LSU Tigers Linked to Dabo Swinney as Brian Kelly Replacement
The LSU Tigers are going to be making a head coaching change. After reports broke that the program has made the decision to move on from Brian Kelly, plenty of names have started flying around about who could replace him.
Kelly has been the head coach at LSU since the 2022 season. In that time period, he has led the Tigers to a 34-14 record, including a 19-10 record in SEC play.
Unfortunately, he has been unable to lead LSU back to being a national championship contender. He has lost plenty of big games and has not been able to make the impact the Tigers hired him to make. That has led to the two parties parting ways.

With that being said, who could be the choice for LSU to replace Kelly? There is an intriguing name to add to the pool of potential candidates.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has been brought up as a potential big swing option for the Tigers. CBS Sports analyst Chris Hummer was the one who put his name into the ring.
“Again, big swings. Swinney is amid his worst season as Clemson’s head coach since 2010. Could Woodward follow his Texas A&M playbook and lure a national champion to Baton Rouge?” Hummer wrote. “Swinney is a proven program builder and would seem to fit in at LSU culturally in a way Kelly never managed to. If Swinney wants a fresh start, you could pick much worse places than Baton Rouge to do so. But like Fisher, you must wonder if Swinney would be a sexy enough hire at this point in his career.”
Swinney has struggled through the 2025 season at Clemson. After starting off the season as a top-tier national championship contender, his squad has fallen flat. To this point in the year, Clemson holds a 3-4 record.

Throughout his college coaching career, Swinney has compiled an impressive 183-51 record and has won two national championships as well. He would be a home run hire for LSU, although it’s far from a sure thing that he would even take a call from the Tigers.
Only time will tell, but this is a very intriguing name to keep an eye on for LSU as the program begins its search for a new head coach.
