New housing support launched for public service workers
Balázs Hidvéghi, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, announced on Monday that a new housing support program will be launched for public service employees. In a video message posted to the government’s official Facebook page, Hidvéghi said the government will provide HUF 1 million in annual housing support to eligible workers starting from January 1, 2026.
The support applies to doctors, nurses, police officers, teachers, soldiers, and all public service employees “without whom the country cannot function,” he said. “This support is a token of our gratitude to those who work every day for the community in their profession.”
Hidvéghi emphasized the government’s commitment to helping Hungarian families acquire their own homes. He noted that the new measure complements other government initiatives such as the “csok plus” scheme and the fixed 3 percent housing loan.
According to the state secretary, the HUF 1 million annual housing support can be used in two ways: either to reduce the principal on an existing home loan or to cover the down payment on a new housing loan. He added that if both spouses or partners work in public service, each can apply for the support individually.
The program is scheduled to begin in early 2026, and those interested are advised to inquire with their employers for further details.
