European Ryder Cup Star Eyes One Last Dream to Complete Rise
Success has poured in for Robert MacIntyre over the past couple of years. From September 2023 to the present, he has played in (and won) two editions of the Ryder Cup, and in between, he earned his card and his first two titles on the PGA Tour. As if that weren’t enough, one of those wins came at the Scottish Open, his national Open.
Naturally, there have been setbacks along the way. For example, although he won two PGA Tour tournaments in 2024, he also missed 10 cuts in 25 events. Moving to America didn’t sit well with him, and he even decided to maintain his residence in Scotland despite playing mostly on the other side of the Atlantic.
It was a very different scenario in 2025: He didn’t win on the PGA Tour, but only missed two cuts in 23 tournaments. He has six top-10 finishes, including two second-place finishes, one of which came at the US Open, his best career result in major championships to date.
Few doubt that MacIntyre’s game is in peak form. So much so, in fact, that whispers of a major championship win have grown louder, and the Scot himself is among those who believe the moment is near.
“I know my wedge game needs to get better, but my game’s good enough right now to win a major championship, but you’ve got to have that bit of luck,” he said during a recent appearance on BBC Radio Scotland’s “The Saturday Show.”
MacIntyre went much further, stating that, after what he’s accomplished in the last two years, winning a major is all he needs to achieve his childhood golf dreams.
“To win any Ryder Cup is special to be part of a Ryder Cup special, but to be part of two and win two, one at home, one away, it’s what dreams are made of,” MacIntyre added. “I’ve literally got one more thing to achieve in the game of golf, and that’s win a major championship, and then I can walk away from the game of golf, going ‘I’ve done everything I dreamed of as a kid.'”
MacIntyre competed in seven major championships over the past two seasons, making five cuts and three top-10 finishes. He has also earned three top-10 finishes in the last six editions of the Open Championship.
