What Dog Does When He Sees Koi Fish in the Pond Melts Hearts

A dog owner from California revealed what her dog does every time he sees Koi fish in her dad’s pond, and internet users can’t cope with how sweet it is.

The heartwarming clip shared on Instagram in October under the username @introducing_hati, shows the Siberian husky/ German shepherd mix pup hanging out with the Koi fish in the pond at his grandpa’s house, gently bopping and petting them.

“My dog would try to eat them! Meanwhile, my dog…” the caption says. “Who’d have thought his best friends would have turned out to be slimey?”

The poster, Lynsey Haddock, told Newsweek that Hati has a deep fascination and infatuation for the Koi fish and nothing gives him more joy than hanging out with them, bopping them with his nose and trying to pet them.

“Especially, ‘Cheeto’ the orange Koi,” she said. “He may look intimidating but he is a sweetheart!”

The Koi fish love their canine friend too, in fact, every time he visits, they all gather around him to greet him and spend time together.

Many other clips on his owner’s profile show the Koi fish comfortably playing with Hati in the pond, under the poster’s supervision.

In a clip shared in September, Haddock explains that while her dad has two dogs of his own, only Hati is allowed in the pond with the Koi fish, because he’s sweet and gentle enough.

Pet MD explains that there are over 100 different types of Koi fish, with new varieties constantly being discovered, and can be differentiated by coloration, pattern, and scalation.

Three core colors make up many Koi varieties, including red (Hi), white (Shiro), and black (Sumi). Other commonly Koi fish include: yellow, orange, blue, and cream.

Koi fish can be single colored, bicolored, or multicolor, and it’s very common for them to have at least three colors. Some may even have a silver or gold metallic sheen to their appearance.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 6 million views and 495,127 likes on the platform.

One user, Ragnafraya_bjornmaximus, commented: “They gravitate towards Hati. The best of friends, especially Cheeto.”

Punkiep said: “He’s a Disney princess.”

Another user, Miercoles.24, wrote: “They can definitely sense that he is friendly.”

Lone_wolfhart added: “If he met a seal they would become the best friends in the world.”
