Hungarian Tourists Involved in the Nile Boat Accident are Well, Says Foreign Minister

All Hungarians involved in the boat accident that occurred on river Nile are well, the members of the group are safe, and arrangements are already being made for their return home, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, announced on Wednesday in Budapest.

As the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade reads, the minister reported that the tourist boat had suffered an accident between Luxor and Edfu with approximately 220 people on board, including 16 Hungarian citizens.

He said that after receiving a request for assistance from the consular service, staff at the embassy in Cairo immediately contacted the passengers and representatives of the travel agency.

All Hungarian citizens are well and were able to disembark in time from the ship, which, based on current information, burned down,”

he said.

He also noted that the passengers suffered only financial losses and that their travel documents were destroyed, but that replacements are already being arranged.

“The members of the Hungarian group are safe, and one of the travel agency’s managers is with them and is already organizing their return home,” he emphasized.

Current plans confirm that those affected will travel by bus to Aswan and from there by plane to Cairo and then to Hungary.
