Hollywood has moved to Budapest again: Anne Hathaway was recently spotted in Budapest’s seventh district filming scenes for her new movie, Alone at Dawn. The Oscar-winning actress stars alongside Adam Driver in this war drama based on real events.

A Facebook group in the seventh district shared the news that Oscar and Golden Globe-winning actress Anne Hathaway, famously known for The Devil Wears Prada, was filming on the corner of Erzsébet körút and Wesselényi utca a few days ago.

Anne’s head-to-toe black outfit consisted of a black hooded knee-length coat, plain trousers, and plain ankle boots.

The story, based on real events, depicts the life of John Chapman, an American Air Force combat control technician who lost his life on March 4, 2002, during the war in Afghanistan. After his death, for a long time no one knew the whole truth about what really happened on that snowy mountainside—it took more than a decade for the details to come to light. Set in Afghanistan, Alone at Dawn focuses on Chapman’s heroic sacrifice, which saved the lives of 23 of his comrades. The film is adapted from the 2019 book of the same title by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz.

Anne Hathaway will appear in a prominent role in the production, but the focus will be on Adam Driver, who plays Chapman. Adam Driver, who went from being a marine to an actor, has made an appearance in the city center last November, and the movie star, who is a fan of classical music, even listened to the 150-year-old Academy of Music’s Pilgrimage Years marathon in his spare time.

Based on a previous announcement by Mid Atlantic Productions, filming will take place in Budapest and the vicinity of Székesfehérvár (central Hungary), in the Szár-hegy quarry, which provides an excellent setting for scenes evoking a war environment.

The announcement also warned local residents to be prepared for loud noises, as explosions, machine gun fire, and periodic road closures are expected to accompany the filming. The crew is currently shooting the film, and the official premiere date has not yet been announced.
