New Dubrovnik Flights and the Algiers Route Return Complement the Budapest Offer

Budapest Airport continues to expand its route network. While Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced a new connection to the Adriatic coast, Algeria’s national airline Air Algérie is planning to return to the Hungarian capital after a break of several years.

Wizz Air is making travel to the Dalmatian coast even easier for the summer season. From June 8, the airline will connect Budapest with Dubrovnik three times a week. The flights will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, confirms turizmus.com.

The flights could be particularly attractive for short breaks, as the planes take off in the early hours of the morning. Passengers can therefore be sitting at the port of Dubrovnik for breakfast or spending the morning on the beach.

Prices for the new route start at 11,990 forints (31.10 euros). As Hungary Today previously reported, Wizz Air recently reached an important milestone, with the Hungarian airline exceeding the 500 million passenger mark. Statistically speaking, this means that the company has transported more people than the entire European Union has inhabitants.

After a long absence, everything points to the return of Air Algérie to Budapest.

As airportal.hu reports, citing booking systems, the Algerian national airline is planning two weekly connections starting April 1.

The airline is relying on a so-called “triangular route” connecting Budapest with Vienna:

Wednesdays: Algiers – Vienna – Budapest – Algiers
Saturdays: Algiers – Budapest – Vienna – Algiers

A Boeing 737-700 is expected to be used. Air Algérie originally launched the connection to Budapest in 2016, but had to suspend operations in 2020 due to the pandemic. After several attempts to restart the route failed over the past two years, the return now seems to be set for this spring.

Budapest is thus consolidating its role as an important hub in Central Eastern Europe.

While Dubrovnik, as a classic summer destination, is likely to appeal primarily to beach vacationers and culture enthusiasts, the connection to Algiers – despite the stopover in Vienna – offers an important bridge for business travelers and intercontinental exchange with North Africa.
