This year, Recirquel’s highly successful cirque dance production Paradisum is being performed around 70 times in eight countries on four continents. The world tour kicked off on January 21 in Canada, the stronghold of new circus, where the company performed in theaters in Vancouver, Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto. The performance, directed by Bence Vági, combines contemporary dance and circus arts and debuted in 2024 at the world’s largest festival, the Edinburgh Fringe. Paradisum, which was selected as one of the world’s ten most innovative artistic productions at the CINARS Biennial, will also be staged in Colombia and Hong Kong, among other places.
Following performances in Madrid in December and Gothenburg and Budapest in January, Recirquel embarked on a major international tour with its production Paradisum. The company received invitations from all over the world after the performance became a huge critical and audience success at the world’s largest festival, the Edinburgh Fringe, in 2024, and was selected as one of the world’s ten most innovative artistic productions at the CINARS Biennial.

The Guardian‘s critic described Paradisum as “a physically stunning, beautiful performance” in which “every moment is worth photographing.”
The company began its world tour with a four-week series of performances in North America. “Canada is the world’s stronghold of contemporary circus arts and the most important market for new circus, so it is a great honor that, as a result of the collaboration of four theaters, we will be able to participate in a multi-week tour and be guests at outstanding performing arts centers,” emphasized Bence Vági, artistic director of Recirquel, ahead of the world tour.

The company already made its debut in Canada in 2016, when it performed Circus in the Night at La TOHU theater. They are now presenting Paradisum in four major cities, for a total of 15 performances. In addition to La TOHU in Montreal, a world-renowned contemporary circus arts center founded by Cirque du Soleil, Recirquel is also performing at the DanceHouse contemporary dance center in Vancouver, the Le Diamant theater in Quebec, and the TO Live – St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Toronto.

Following the Canadian performances, the company will continue its tour in Italy in the second half of February, then perform in France and the Netherlands, and in the fall, Paradisum will also be presented in South America and Asia at the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (HKPAX). This year, Paradisum will be staged abroad a total of 70 times.

The Hungarian audience will next be able to see the production in April 2026 at the Müpa Festival Theater.
Combining contemporary dance and circus arts, Paradisum explores the myth of rebirth following the destruction of the world and a new form of human existence. It seeks to answer the question of how new humans can exist in this Eden-like, utopian state. During the performance, the new creatures emerge from the pulsating natural forces around them to reach the anima mundi, the “spirit of the world,” through scenes of purification, birth, awakening, and ritual. The production is performed by six world-class artists and dancers. The choreography, built on elements of contemporary dance and new circus, takes the cirque danse genre, already well known from Recirquel’s productions of the past few years, to new dimensions.
