Hungarian Protestants Consider Quitting Worldwide Body Over its Woke Agenda

The Transylvanian and Hungarian Reformed Church is considering or contemplating withdrawing from the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) or suspending its membership, said Vilmos Kolumbán, bishop of the church district.

Speaking in Pécs (southern Hungary) on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Synod of Hercegszőlős, the church leader said that the General Assembly of the World Communion of Reformed Churches represents theological positions with which they cannot identify, and therefore they are requesting a review.

The WCRC seems to be completely tone deaf to societies’ concerns regarding migrant crimes, yet they saw it fit to raising voices over the death of violent left wing extremist Alex Pretti in the U.S. and the social media posts are also dominated by gender ideology issues.

“We must convey and represent a clear, biblical position. A position that has preserved Reformed Christianity over the past 450 years, preserving the culture that Hungarian Reformed Christianity represented in the Carpathian Basin,” said the church leader in Pécs, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the Synod of Hercegszőlős.

That is why we are interested in statements that strengthen our identity and Reformed self-awareness, and we represent a theological position that results in and follows the traditional, biblical and confessional understanding of the family model, outlook on life, and attention to everyday reality,”

he added.

In a joint letter, the ten Reformed church districts of the Carpathian Basin protest to the World Communion of Reformed Churches against its ideological bias, lack of substantive theological dialogue, and disrespectful and derisive tone toward Hungarian Reformed Christians.

“We believe that this organization currently does not respect the biblical approach, our Reformed confessions, or our church. We must make a serious decision regarding our membership, thus before doing so, we will initiate a dialogue on theological and organizational issues with the global and regional leadership of the WCRC.

“Christ is the future, we follow him together.” With the motto of our Central European Hungarian Reformed community, in the certainty of the power of Jesus Christ, who rules over the past, present, and future of the Church, in the awareness of our responsibility before Him, and in the hope of a dialogue based on mutual respect, we greet you on behalf of our entire community.”

they write in the letter.
