Wizz Air remains committed to the Hungarian market in the long term and will continue to strive for stability, reliability and predictability in the future, emphasized József Váradi, CEO of the airline, at a background briefing in Budapest on Friday.

József Váradi said that the airline has carried 7.4 million passengers in Hungary in 2025, and based on their plans, this could reach 8.3 million in 2026. The number of employees working in the country is 1,500, but their other activities in Hungary—maintenance, training—generate significant additional jobs through their impact on tourism.

They currently fly 87 routes from Budapest and will operate 42,000 flights in 2026, which is 23 percent more than in 2025. Seating capacity in 2026 will be 8.9 million, a 19 percent increase over the previous year.

During the background discussion, József Váradi announced that there will once again be flights from Budapest to Sofia, operating four times a week from July 2026.

The CEO of Wizz Air highlighted that the airline has carried more than 500 million passengers globally since 2004, its fleet exceeds 250 aircraft, and it flies more than a thousand routes across its network.

József Váradi emphasized that the airline pays special attention to safety, uses aircraft equipped with the latest technology, and provides high-quality pilot training.

Responding to a question, the CEO said that they are striving to maintain their current favorable position in the market in terms of schedule and punctuality, and that they have the necessary capacity to do so. They are also working on obtaining the necessary flight permits for the U.S. route to make it easier to fly charter flights when the opportunity arises.

Wizz Air achieved revenue of EUR 1.3 billion in the third financial quarter between October and December 2025, representing an annual increase of 10.2 percent. In the third quarter, the company’s EBITDA was EUR 176 million, a 12.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. During the same period, its loss amounted to EUR 139 million, which is 42.2 percent less than in the same period last year.
