“The Hungarian government and the relevant Hungarian state bodies will continue to reject any attempts at intervention, as only the Hungarian people can decide on the future of our country; neither Brussels, Berlin nor Kyiv has the right to influence this,” said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Tuesday in Berettyóújfalu.
The minister stated that “in recent days, it has become clear that an axis has been formed between Brussels, Berlin, and Kyiv, whose members are shamelessly and openly doing everything they can to intervene in the elections and bring about a change of government in Hungary.”
He explained that some of these attempts at interference are visible to the public, while others are not.
“I would like to assure the citizens of Hungary that the Hungarian government and the relevant Hungarian state bodies will continue to repel these attempts at interference, partly by means that are visible to the public and partly by means that are not visible to the public,” he stated.
“Only the Hungarian people can decide on the future of Hungary; neither Brussels, Berlin, nor Kyiv has the right to influence decisions about Hungary’s future,” he added.
Péter Szijjártó believes that part of these attempts to exert influence was the fact that, due to the Ukrainian President’s “political decision,” oil shipments through Ukraine to Hungary had not resumed.
“We have therefore taken the necessary steps. Oil supplies in Hungary remain secure, and we have sufficient strategic reserves. Together with the Slovaks, we have indicated to the Croats that, in accordance with the rules of the European Union, which are binding on everyone, we wish to import Russian crude oil by sea via the Croatian pipeline system,” he said.
“The rules of the European Union state that Hungary and Slovakia are exempt from sanctions and may import crude oil from Russia via pipeline, and if this becomes impossible, Hungary and Slovakia have the right to import Russian crude oil by sea,” he pointed out.
“That is why we have drawn the attention of the Croatians to the fact that, in accordance with the mandatory rules of the European Union that also apply to them, we will be importing Russian crude oil through the Croatian pipeline system in the coming period. This will ensure the security of Hungary’s energy supply and ensure that utility cost reductions remain in place in Hungary, thus Hungarian people and Hungarian families continue to pay the lowest utility costs in Europe,” he concluded.
