With the handover of the former riding hall, the complete renovation of Gyula Castle Baths, costing HUF 3 billion (EUR 7.96 million) has been completed, meaning that the entire facility is now available to guests, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced on Tuesday at the site.
At the inauguration ceremony for the riding hall building of the castle baths, the minister first addressed the crises of the last decade and a half and the severe uncertainty accompanying the emergence of a new world order, emphasizing that Hungary had achieved real economic feats amid all these difficulties. He pointed out that the successes of recent years were only possible because certain economic sectors, such as tourism, had performed exceptionally well.
“Numerous Hungarian locations are attracting more and more visitors from home and abroad. Hungary’s appeal is also being continuously enhanced at the international level by our thermal baths, which are known far beyond our borders,” he noted. Péter Szijjártó made it clear that among these facilities, the extremely high-quality Burgbad stands out, which was renovated in three phases for a total of HUF 3 billion (cc. EUR 8 million, EUR 1 = HUF 377).
The investment is now complete, meaning that the entire facility is now available to guests.
He explained that the final phase of development involved the renovation of a special building, the almost 200-year-old riding hall, which awaits visitors as one of the most beautiful and best thermal water complexes in Hungary. He also pointed out that Gyula (southeastern Hungary) “is becoming more and more beautiful after the developments of recent years,” attracting more and more tourists and contributing increasingly to the strengthening of the Hungarian economy.
“Here we meet not only guests from Hungary, but also from abroad. Their journey is made easier by the fact that Gyula now has two border crossings, as one of the ten new border crossings recently opened on the Hungarian-Romanian border is located here in Dénesmajor,” the minister noted.
We will complete the connection between the M44 and the Romanian expressway network by the end of the decade,” he said.
“And here in Gyula, in addition to the castle baths, we can also be proud that Almásy Castle has been renovated in recent years with an investment of HUF 2.5 billion, and that we will soon be renovating the railway station and renewing the area around the Élővíz Canal,” Péter Szijjártó added.

Finally, the minister also reported that Gyula is becoming increasingly integrated into the international economic cycle, as the Airbus plant now manufactures the most sensitive flight safety devices and equipment. “We will ensure that the city of Gyula continues to develop in the future. This is supported by the seven investments totaling HUF 32 billion made in Gyula and the surrounding area, which have secured a total of more than a thousand jobs in the immediate vicinity of the city,” he explained.
