Budapest Central European Fashion Week Showcases Regional Talent and Designers

More than 40 designers presented their collections at the 17th Budapest Central European Fashion Week (BCEFW), with interested parties, influencers, and industry professionals from 12 countries coming to Hungary for the event.

The series of events organized by Creative Hungary further strengthened Budapest’s regional role with more than fifty accompanying events, the cooperation of six international partner organizations, the involvement of twenty professional educational institutions, and the participation of more than 5,500 visitors.

On Friday, the Apollo Gallery’s contemporary art space provided a venue for the fresh visions of Hungarian and regional designers at the beginning of their careers, which took shape in the embrace of painter József Gaál’s monumental works. On Saturday and Sunday, the collections of established domestic and international brands took center stage in the representative spaces of the Museum of Fine Arts.

In addition to Hungary, two Czech, four Slovak, three Polish, three Slovenian, two Ukrainian, one Serbian, one Armenian, and one Romanian designer were given the opportunity to showcase their work at the 17th BCEFW, the organizers reported.

They added that Creative Hungary once again collaborated with six international professional organizations: the Czech Fashion Council, Ljubljana Fashion Week, the Slovak Fashion Council, Ukrainian Fashion Week, Belgrade Fashion Week, and Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week, in order to create mutual opportunities for Hungarian and regional brands to showcase themselves.

The event series was attended by prestigious international media outlets such as Vogue Adria, Vogue Ukraine, and Vogue Czech, as well as ELLE Serbia, ELLE Japan, ELLE Czech, Twój Styl, TOP Fashion, and GQ Poland.

In addition, 170 journalists and photographers from 75 other domestic and international media outlets reported on the latest collections, and millions of people saw the unique pieces from Hungarian and regional brands through BCEFW’s official online social media channels.

It was also announced that BCEFW has supported the debut of hundreds of newcomers over the past 16 seasons, with young designers accounting for nearly 60% of the entire repertoire.

This mission is reinforced by the new addition to the 17th season, the New Generation Individual Show category, which this year provided two young brands, Chokassy and Szarvas Valentin, with an opportunity to independently showcase their work.

The new generation also played a prominent role in Sunday’s exhibition space, with three young designers presenting their creations in the afternoon block.

In addition to the catwalk and presentations, the training of the next generation continued in the audience, where 185 students and teachers from 20 vocational training institutions were able to get a taste of the world of contemporary fashion, the organizers revealed.

“The Central European region can only remain competitive if it thinks in terms of cooperation and enters the international market through common platforms. Our task is to develop professional and business structures that connect the players in the region and create real export opportunities for designers. Over the past 17 seasons, Budapest Central European Fashion Week has built an infrastructure that goes beyond the shows: it is not only a cultural event, but also a commercially stable, internationally recognized platform that creates connections, helps designers enter the market, and strengthens the region’s creative exports in the long term,” emphasized Zsófia Jakab, CEO of Creative Hungary and Ministerial Commissioner responsible for the development and coordination of the creative industry.
