Team USA’s Reaction to National Anthem After Winning Gold Medal Goes Viral

The United States women’s hockey team delivered a gold medal with a 2-1 overtime victory over Canada despite not leading the game until the very end.

Team USA fell down 1-0 and trailed for nearly the entire game until legendary forward Hilary Knight notched the game-tying goal with just 2:04 left in the third period. Veteran defenseman Megan Keller then split a defenders leg with a deke and put home a backhand attempt in the first overtime period to bring the gold back to the United States.

Following the game, the women’s team stood arm-in-arm and watched the playing of their national anthem, a moment that quickly went viral.

“Wow winning in overtime and then entire women’s hockey singing the national anthem all together plus the crowd it was so moving!” one social media account said while showing video of the moment and sparking strong reactions from fellow hockey fans.

“I’m sure every single one of those young women have their own views on the state of our country. I don’t know a single one of them. Hurrah for them on all fronts! Gold medal and love of country while being great representatives of our country and Team USA. THIS is how it’s done,” suggested another fan.

“They Get IT! Love the pride on the faces from every team and staff member! And the crowd singing to help bring it home!” added ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit.

“God Bless American Hockey.. Way to go Ladies… AWESOME,” added former United States gold medal winning hockey player Jack O’Callahan.

The United States women’s hockey team won gold for the third time since the sport was introduced to the Olympics, reclaiming it from Canada, which won gold in 2022.
