It seems like ancient history, but the Cougars were ranked No. 9 in the polls as of the January 5th voting. BYU would win three more in a row after that to stretch their record to 16-1, before the wheels came off, as they’d lose six of their next nine games, with five of those losses coming against ranked opponents. Their most recent loss was at No. 4 Arizona, although a 75-68 road loss to a top-5 team isn’t anything to be too upset about. BYU got 35 points from AJ Dybantsa, as they hope to receive an at-large bid in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Iowa State is one of a few teams that can boast an offense and a defense in the top-40, as they score 83.7 points per game (36th), while allowing just 64.6 (10th). The Cyclones are a fascinating team: all three of their losses are on the road, against unranked opponents, but they can claim wins over No. 1 Purdue, No. 2 Houston, and No. 9 Kansas, with the latter two coming in their last two games. In their 70-67 win over Houston, it was a team effort, as every player who entered the game scored between six and 12 points. If not for a rough night at the foul line (11-of-22, 50%), the game wouldn’t have been nearly as close.
This is a great NCAA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
