Kecskemét Is Becoming a Strategic Pillar for Mercedes-Benz

The 140-year-old Stuttgart-based car manufacturing giant is transforming its presence in our country – driven by domestic production, electrification, and a consistent premium strategy.

From the perspective of the domestic automotive industry, Hungary is facing a decisive phase. Mercedes-Benz brings together the key market drivers: the large-scale expansion of the Kecskemét plant, the unstoppable triumph of electric mobility, and the unbroken momentum in the top premium segment. The German manufacturer is responding to the change not only with a model offensive, but also with a massive strengthening of its strategic foothold in Hungary, Világgazdaság reports.

On the brand’s 140th anniversary, the company is sending a clear signal for the future:

Between 2025 and 2027, Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce nearly 40 new or fundamentally redesigned models.

This portfolio ranges from the compact class to the absolute luxury segment. A key feature of this strategy is technological openness. Customers will continue to have the choice between highly efficient combustion engines and fully electric drives. This course is already clearly noticeable in Hungary. Here, the company is focusing increasingly on diversifying its range and gradually increasing the proportion of electric vehicles.

The latest market data from 2025 underscores the success of this strategy. Passenger car sales in Hungary rose by 8.7 percent. Despite global challenges, Mercedes-Benz’s sales climbed by 11 percent compared to the previous year. The performance in the luxury segment is particularly impressive. One-third of the vehicles sold were in the luxury class, with the sporty AMG models gaining particular importance. The share of battery electric vehicles (BEV) in total sales stabilized at just over 9 percent.

“Our strategy rests on three pillars: a strong brand, a competitive portfolio, and an excellent customer experience,” said Fabiola Attorri, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Hungaria. “It does not matter whether the customer chooses a combustion engine or an electric car – quality and usability must be at the same premium level,” she added.

Special attention is being paid to models that have a direct connection to Hungary.

The GLB, manufactured in Kecskemét, plays a key role for customers looking for an electric alternative in the compact SUV segment.

Another highlight is the new electric CLA, that has already been awarded the title “Car of the Year 2026” and consolidates the brand’s position in the premium compact segment. In the luxury class, the updated S-Class sets new standards. As a plug-in hybrid, it offers a pure electric range of up to 117 kilometers and demonstrates the growing importance of software and digital functionality through over-the-air updates.

To mark the anniversary, Budapest is becoming the focus of global brand communication.

Under the name “Mercedes-Benz City,” a series of events lasting several months will also take place in the Hungarian capital.

The Mercedes-Benz Art Collection will kick off the events, followed by various model presentations and test drives.

For lovers of sporty performance, the AMG Experience program will also launch in Hungary in the fall. Customers will be able to test the limits of driving dynamics under controlled conditions on closed tracks.
