“The government puts the value and interests of families first, and the Hungarian family policy measures that embody this serve as a model for other nations around the world that share a similar view on this issue, said the Minister of Culture and Innovation on Tuesday in Gödöllő,” at the V4 Summit and Pro-Family Summit conference.
Balázs Hankó praised the significance of the event, saying: the royal palace in Gödöllő (central Hungary) is hosting an international conference on the value, role and importance of families, which will be attended by the Visegrad Four as well as guest participants from the Western Balkans, Türkiye, and family organizations from the United States. The Turkic states will also be represented, including “countries for which family is the most important social value”, he added.
The choice of venue and topic is no coincidence, as “there is no question that we are the most family-friendly nation in Europe,” he said.
Minister Balázs Hankó believes that Hungary’s family policy has become world-renowned in recent years thanks to more than 30 measures taken by the government to support and stand by Hungarian families.
He highlighted the personal income tax exemption, which is now granted for life to mothers with three children and mothers under the age of 40 with two children.
Thanks to this exemplary and model initiative, half a million mothers have been enjoying personal income tax exemption from January 1, 2026,”
the minister pointed out. He added that the doubled family tax allowance is also a unique form of Hungarian support that strengthens the financial security of one million families.
He recalled that another pillar of family policy is support for home ownership, as a result of which, in recent years, every second family with children has been able to create an independent home with government assistance.
Meanwhile, the nursery development program aims to create a balance between family and work, he said, recalling that the government has doubled the number of nursery places in line with this goal.
With this series of measures, Hungary is pursuing a family policy that is unique in the world and serves as an example not only for the Visegrad countries in the heart of Europe, but also for the Western Balkan countries and even the United States, he noted, highlighting that the “Trump bill” launched by the United States was also inspired by one of Hungary’s family support measures.
Balázs Hankó also mentioned that the rest of the conference will focus on the Geneva Consensus, which was established in 2020 by the United States and Hungary, with Hungary currently serving as its secretariat. Its most important message is that the family is the basic unit of society.
“The V4 Summit and Pro-Family Summit conference aims to strengthen these families, now that Donald Trump has taken office, once again in close cooperation with the United States,” the minister concluded.
