Government Raises Terror Threat Level

The National Defense Council has raised the terror threat level by one notch in order to prevent the possible consequences of the Iranian war, which means additional tasks for the police.

Security will be stepped up at police facilities where weapons are stored, and regular police patrols have been ordered at facilities that are important for the functioning of the state and the provision of services to the population.

There will also be an increased police presence in major public areas, in areas where large crowds gather, and in the halls of Liszt Ferenc International Airport, at the entrances and on the road leading to the airport, where a permanent police presence  can be expected.

In addition, police officers may carry out random checks at borders within the Schengen Area. There will also be police checks on roads leading into Budapest and increased police protection will be provided to certain embassies.

The Liszt Ferenc International Airport also informed passengers about the changes and potential police checks on Facebook, writing: “The airport is operating normally, passenger traffic is seamless. We ask our passengers to follow the official information provided by the authorities and the airport.”
