Man charged in double stabbing of girlfriend and her son
NEW YORK (TCN) — A man is facing numerous charges after allegedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend and severely wounding her teenage son.
On Feb. 28, 45-year-old Juan Rivas was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, criminal possession of weapon, and assault, amNY reports.
Officers received a 911 call regarding an assault and blood coming from under an apartment door, the New York Post reports.
Responding officers found blood in the hallway outside the residence of 42-year-old Yesenia Hall and her 16-year-old son, whose name has not been released, per amNY. Hall had been stabbed in the back, stomach, and neck, and her son had been stabbed in the neck and back. Both were taken to a hospital and Hall was pronounced dead. Her son is in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to amNY.
Rivas allegedly changed his clothes and left, per the New York Post, and he was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, several hours after police discovered Hall and her son.
Hall’s neighbor, 17-year-old Shantrice Diamond, alleges she heard Rivas yelling, “I’m gonna stab you,” according to the New York Post. Diamond told the outlet, “I heard the woman’s voice. She was screaming in pain. She was screaming, ‘Stop! Stop!’ After that, she said, ‘I am gonna die, I’m gonna die. And like two minutes later I heard nothing but silence.”
According to police sources, Rivas lived at the apartment with Hall and her son, amNY reports. The alleged attack was domestic in nature and Diamond said she had heard Rivas being aggressive in the past, The Independent reports.
According to the New York Post, Rivas is scheduled to appear in court again on March 5.
