Service exports calculated in EUR increased by 7.6%, imports by 3.6% in the 4th quarter of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year. The surplus reached EUR 3.1 billion, EUR 469 million higher than in the 4th quarter of 2024. The export value decreased by 4.8%, that of import grew by 6.6%, generating an EUR 930 million balance decrease compared to the previous quarter.
In the 4th quarter of 2025:
The value of exports amounted to EUR 10 billion (HUF 3.9 thousand billion), that of imports to EUR 6.9 billion (HUF 2.7 thousand billion). The surplus of the external trade in services added up to EUR 3.1 billion (HUF 1.2 thousand billion).
Among service groups, travel services contributed with EUR 1036 million, transport services with EUR 848 million, business services with EUR 658 million to the surplus.
64% of Hungary’s service exports, 73% of our service imports were transacted with EU member states, generating a surplus of EUR 1.5 billion in this relation.
Germany continues to be our primary trading partner in this quarter, too, accounting for 20% of the total turnover. The United States ranked second with 8.3%, followed by Austria in the third place, with a 6.4% share.
The proportion of business services was 46% out of the total service exports (including 25% for other business services), transport services amounting to 25%.
Business services dominated in imports as well with a proportion of 58% (including 29% for other business services), while transport services accounting for 25% of the total import turnover.
In the 4th quarter of 2025, year-on-year:
The value of service exports in EUR terms increased by 7.6% (by 2.0% in HUF terms), that of imports grew by 3.6% (decreasing by 1.7% in HUF terms). The surplus exceeded by EUR 469 million (HUF 125 billion) that from the same period of the previous year.
The surplus increase was primarily driven by the EUR 276 million balance improvement in travel services, , in transport services, by EUR 135, as well as in manufacturing services on physical inputs owned by others, by EUR 69 million, while the balance of some service groups (including personal, cultural and recreational services by EUR 73 million) deteriorated.
Our surplus grew by EUR 360 million n the turnover with the EU member states, primarily due to the balance improvements of EUR 234 million and 135 million with Germany and Austria.
In the case of non-EU countries, our surplus increased by EUR 109 million. The improvement was realised primarily with Israel (EUR 52 million), the United States (EUR 32 million), and the Republic of Korea (EUR 22 million).
