16-Year-Old American Dillon Mitchell Breaks World Record in 60m Race
Talk about blazing speed.
Texas teenager Dillon Mitchell is widely regarded as one of the most promising track athletes in the United States.
Also an excellent football player, the 2028 receiver already has accrued reported offers from elite programs such as Texas, LSU, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Stanford, Oregon, Miami, Georgia, and Florida.

There may be a reality in which Mitchell one day competes in both sports at the collegiate level. Having said, if he continues to register track times of the likes we’ve recently seen, his future may solely be on the pathway to representing the United States in future Olympic competitions.
At the recent 2026 United States Indoor Track and Field Championships this past week, Mitchell was clocked with a 6.59 time in the 60m sprint. This broke the world record for the fastest time of any u18 competitor.
A few days later at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet Invitational, Mitchell was clocked with a wind-aided 9.88 time in the 100m sprint. At only 16 years of age, there’s a real chance Mitchell could develop into a competitor for the United States at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
This sort of speed is utterly mind-boggling, and it would be even more exhilarating and exciting to see it unleashed on the football field versus high-level competition.

Of course, the risk of serious injury is such that it could result in Mitchell specializing to stay fully healthy for a possible Olympics run. There’s no dispute about the fact that he is one of the fastest teenagers in the world given what he’s demonstrated over the last couple of weeks.
It’ll be very interesting to monitor the future of this prodigious athlete.
