The NFL free agency period officially begins on Wednesday, March 11, but deals are being made behind the scenes, so the action is already in full swing.
For the Los Angeles Rams, the team got so close to winning another Super Bowl during the 2025-26 season. There’s not much to perfect about the Rams’ lineup, but there’s always room for improvement, and just a few tweaks to the lineup could help Matthew Stafford and the team bring home another Super Bowl victory in 2026-27.
In a Friday, March 6, feature for Fox Sports, Greg Auman, Ben Arthur, Henry McKenna, Eric Williams and Ralph Vacchiano discuss the Rams’ situation and look at the available free agents. For the Rams, they like cornerback Tariq Woolen of the Seahawks.
“Woolen has worn out his welcome in Seattle but finds a new home with the Rams. Woolen talked trash to Sean McVay and the Rams’ sideline during the NFL championship, earning a head-scratching unsportsmanlike penalty, so things may need to be smoothed over initially,” they note in the piece. “But with his speed, length and ball-hawking skills, Woolen provides an upgrade at cornerback on the perimeter and a defender familiar with covering the best receivers in the NFC West.”

According to Spotrac, Woolen has a market value estimation of $8.2 million ahead of free agency.

“If you could create a cornerback, he’d look and run like Riq Woolen,” Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports says of the player. “Standing 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds with a 4.26 40-yard dash, Woolen burst onto the scene with six interceptions as a rookie in 2022, but he hasn’t been quite as good since.”
He adds, “Some of the numbers, like the 4.6 yards per attempt allowed (third-lowest of 79 cornerbacks who were the primary defender on at least 50 passes) are really encouraging. Others, like his PFF ranking, aren’t. Woolen would fit best in a defense that just lets him go out and play freely as a physical, on-the-line-of-scrimmage cornerback. He has all the talent in the world.”
