Alex Bregman Sends Red Sox Message After Leaving For Cubs
As the free agent market starts to pick up, Alex Bregman’s deal with the Cubs was announced by the team on Wednesday, with a press conference to be held on Thursday.
Before speaking to the media in an introductory press conference, Bregman took a moment to send a message to the Boston Red Sox on Instagram.
“To Boston, It was an honor to play for a city that shares the same passion and love for the game as I do,” Bregman wrote on Instagram. “You welcomed my family with open arms and we will always be grateful for the support you gave us. To my teammates, coaches, AC, it was an absolute honor.”
Bregman’s time in Boston was short-lived, but he made a huge impact. He was praised as a leader in the Red Sox clubhouse, and he had his best season in years. He earned his first All-Star selection since 2019, and was top-ten in OPS before his quad injury in May.
Bregman is a two-time World Series champion, three-time All-Star, Gold Glover and Silver Slugger. The Cubs are getting an important piece, and he could be key in replacing Kyle Tucker’s production if he leaves, which he is expected to. Bregman’s deal with the Cubs is for five years and $175 million.
The Red Sox were reportedly willing to match the years on Bregman’s deal, but could not outbid the Cubs $175 million, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
