Baby Seen ‘Combing’ Hair On Ultrasound—Shock At What It Looks Like Now

An expectant mom was surprised to see her unborn child “combing” his hair on the ultrasound—but it was a sign of things to come.

Makenzie Crutcher, from Missouri, always suspected her son, Crosby, would be born with a full head of hair. However, what she saw on the day of her ultrasound still took her by surprise. “We honestly didn’t believe the ultrasound tech until she showed us the video,” Crutcher told Newsweek. “It was so wild to see!”

Crutcher shared a clip of what she witnessed that day to her TikTok, @makenziepaige. It was almost too bizarre to believe: according to the ultrasound technician present, Crosby was “combing” his hair with his foot. The video showing what they saw that day went viral, amassing over 200,000 views.

“I know that usually they can get an idea of how much hair a baby has via ultrasound, but the fact he was combing through his using his toes and was caught on video is definitely a rare catch,” Crutcher said.

Even after bearing witness to this, however, Crutcher was completely unprepared for just how much hair Crosby would have when he was born. He arrived happy and healthy back in April, sporting a thick head of black hair.

Crutcher was in shock. “We still didn’t expect him to have that much hair! Our oldest was born with some hair, but it all fell out around 6 weeks and took a while to grow back—and still isn’t as luscious as baby brother’s,” she said.

Pediatrician Dr. Cindy Gellner explained babies’ hair texture and growth rate is determined by one thing: genetics.

She told the University of Utah: “Parents often tell me that they shave their baby’s head because it will make their hair grow in thicker. Unfortunately, that’s not true, and all you’ll have is a bald baby.

“And if your child has no hair, that’s okay, as long as they’re not over the age of, say one or two, and don’t have any evidence of any hair formation. If that’s the case, then you’ll want to talk to your pediatrician.”

The genetics were clear to see for Crutcher—hairy babies run in Crosby’s family. “I was born with the same head of dark, thick hair,” she said.

The TikTok video’s reveal of Crosby’s luscious locks certainly helped it go viral. “He looks like a baby John Stamos!” one viewer joked with another writing: “Man came out needing a haircut.”

Crosby hair has also turned him into something of a minor celebrity when he’s out around town. “Anytime we go out everyone comments on his hair, whether to us or just overheard in passing,” Crutcher said. “Usually it’s, ‘that baby has a full head of hair! You must have had a lot of heartburn!'”

That’s one “old wives’ tale” Crutcher is happy to dispel though. “I did not have heartburn with all his hair during pregnancy,” she said.
